These little Zuni horse/pony beads are wonderful when used for a bracelet, earrings, a small pendant worn alone OR as a focal bead for a beaded necklace and are light enough to wear for earrings!. They are 1/8" thin, almost 7/8" long nose to tail, and 1/2" withers to belly, and drilled withers to belly. (about the size of a penny thus the name) I am selling them "as is" for your own creations. Remember even carved and shaped, these stone beads possess the same healing and helping properties it did as a stone, and no two are "exactly" the same.
A bit of history about
"Fetish Beads"
Fetishes are most often used to ask for help with treating disease, helping with fertility, asking for rain, helping personal problems, and protecting from negative energies or one's enemies. They bring good luck, protect households and individuals, and played a vital role in tribal and curing rituals in times past and even now in these times present. Only a pure heart and an honest desire will get the promised results. Their power lies in the spirit that dwells within the fetish.
The meanings of fetishes vary, not only from person to person, but also from clan to clan or society to society within the old tribes. However, the power of an animal fetish has universal meanings. The mountain lion of the north, which represents leadership, preparation, and agility, is first; followed by the bear of the west (healing, strength, and introspection); the badger of the south (stamina, tenacity, and passion); the wolf of the east (sociability, commitment, and stamina); the eagle of the skies (vision, illumination, and clarity); and the mole of the underground (acceptance, self-discovery, and grounding). Each animal is responsible for guarding his particular region.
The mountain lion, bear, coyote, wolf, and eagle are all valued for their hunting prowess. Their fetishes were worn in leather neck pouches to aid the success of a hunt. Other fetish animals are the buffalo, elk, fox, horse, hawk, owl, raven, snake, lizard, squirrel, beaver, butterfly, deer, hummingbird, otter, and rabbit, each with a particular group of admirable qualities.
Other fetishes are turtles, who are the spirit beings of ancestors; frogs, which symbolize rain, fertility, and abundance. Frog fetishes are often buried near water sources to ensure a steady supply of water. The animal a fetish represents has certain qualities that can be developed by its owner if he/she concentrates.
